The European Golf Writers Conference, an event held every two years, was hosted from 5-7 May by Pestana Golf at their prestigious golf complex in the Western Algarve.
Seventy members of the international media organisation played at Gramacho and Pinta courses on Saturday and Sunday and then on Monday at the new Silves course, Past Masters Old Links Golf were invited to run a hickory event.

The
weather was warm and sunny as the players collected their clubs for a foursomes
event with a shotgun start. The winners of the 'Hickory Trophy' were Paul
Challen, Chairman of Bill Goff Golf Tours
(second from right)
and Simon Turner, Bill Goff , Rep
Manager (far right)
with a score of 32 points, a most creditable performance with such
unfamiliar clubs in a difficult format, rarely played these days..jpg)
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were amazed to discover that all the clubs were original, impressed by the standard of their restoration and surprised by the distances that they hit the ball and how good they felt to play with.
